Soap Opera Conclusions
Finally, one of the soaps' greatest strengths has always been their ability to allow the audience to escape from their own boring or difficult lives for a few hours in the afternoon. Thanks to VCR's, TiVo, Digital Video Recorders, and SOAPnet, they can now escape into the soap world any time they want. In this way, soaps can be therapeutic.
They relieve stress by letting us worry about other people's lives and problems for a little while. It's fun to get involved with our favorite heroes and heroines in their romantic adventures and their adventurous romances. We can live out our idealized dreams about the way life and love should be by watching the soaps. If our own lives fall a little short sometimes, we don't have to worry; there are always tomorrow afternoon's plots to look forward to.
For all you soap opera watchers out there, I hope you've gained a greater insight and appreciation for the fact that every day, AS THE WORLD TURNS, soaps make positive contributions to our lives and our society.
For all you soap opera bashers, maybe you can now understand why so many people get their GUIDING LIGHT from their television screens (and now podcasts too) every weekday afternoon and why ALL MY CHILDREN is more than just a phrase about one's lineage. I hope you have new PASSIONS for what a fascinating and useful art form the soap opera really is. Soap opera bashers, don't let another afternoon of your ONE LIFE TO LIVE pass by without checking out those BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL, those YOUNG AND RESTLESS people on daytime. Fill your afternoons with some LOVING and let those wonderful soap operas take you away to ANOTHER WORLD for all the DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
