Middle of Nowhere is an original sitcom centered on a group of people who live and work in the woods. Two bumbling forest rangers, their perpetually annoyed boss, a beautiful veterinarian, a saucy waitress, and a “hick kid,” who manages to get himself stuck in more places than a guy in a Superglue commercial, round out the cast.
Most sitcom settings are standard fare: the home, the office, and an occasional trip to a store or restaurant. This show aims to open up the possibilities, literally, by splitting the action between the typical interiors and distinctive scenic exteriors (whether authentic or created on set). Snow-covered pines, flowing rivers, bright autumn foliage, and an assortment of forest animals are a few of the many choices available for either principal photography or establishing shots.
More than just window dressing, the script makes full use of its unique setting through plot and characterization. The wilderness is fraught with opportunity to allow future episodes to seamlessly incorporate dangerous and dramatic situations into the comedic core.
Hollywood loves to reduce scripts to one-line descriptions. A fitting logline for this sitcom project is Dumb and Dumber become forest rangers. However, it's much more than that. As the new-in-town doctor discovers, each character has his or her own reasons to want to stay in the Blue Hills or escape from them.
Get out your compass, stuff your backpack with trail mix, and gather your hiking gear. It’s time for a visit to the Middle of Nowhere.
