Seth is a forest ranger. He is grungy and unkempt looking. His partner, Rusty, frequently tells him to, “Show some respect for the uniform.”
Despite his proclivity for getting into goofy situations, Seth has always shown an aptitude for this kind of work. He was an eagle scout in his younger days. As a teen-ager, he once single-handedly volunteered to find a group of missing elementary schoolchildren in the middle of a blizzard. He led them all back to safety without a so much as a sign of frostbite in sight.
He married his high school sweetheart. They live with their five children in a trailer park. Seth is very devoted to his family. He likes to talk about his children, whose names Rusty always confuse with the names of the kids on The Brady Bunch. Seth’s wife stays home to care for the children. Every time Seth threatens to quit and move to Nashville, Rusty reminds him that he can’t do that because of the kids. Seth would never quit anyway, it is just wishful thinking.
Seth has grand dreams, but has absolutely no ambition to pursue them. He would like to be a rock star. (Of course, this seems rather unlikely since he is stuck on a mountain in the middle of nowhere.) He does play the harmonica well, but he only knows one song.
Seth has raised laziness to an art form. He never got a driver’s license because he was too lazy to go through the process. He usually arrives late for work. Some of his favorite phrases are, “All right. I'm getting to it” and “Time for lunch yet?” Rusty comments that Seth wasn’t too lazy to have 5 kids, though.
