Sitcom Script Subsequent Episode Synopses
When writers pitch a new show and create its "bible," an essential part of the process is proving to potential backers, both creative and monetary, that the concept can be extended successfully week after week. Otherwise, the project may lend itself more to a feature or TV movie. Since a popular sitcom or drama may be on the air for several seasons and hundreds of episodes if the elusive TV gods smile upon the project, showing the next step beyond the pilot script is a necessity.
These are six subsequent episode synopses to accompany the Middle of Nowhere pilot script:
Big Baby – Rusty is jealous of all the attention Maggie pays to Chip because of Chip’s penchant for physical mishaps. Rusty manages to get himself bitten by a beaver. A few shots and a lot of fuss later, Maggie finds out what a big baby he is when it comes to medical issues. Rusty likes this extra Maggie-attention so he soon devises various “medical emergencies” for himself. Maggie becomes suspicious and enlists Seth’s and the gang’s help to turn the tables on him, making him think he really has come down with some of his imagined maladies.
Carla Gets Real – When Carla overhears a vacationing Hollywood producer say he is searching for the star of his new reality show, Waitress With A ‘Tude, she ratchets up her personality a few notches (beyond her usual level of unbearable) and sets out to prove she has more attitude than a hornet on ecstasy. Several broken plates and spilled drinks later, Seth and Rusty discover he is really producing a porn movie titled Waitress In The Nude. Will Carla do the Full Monty in order to escape from the diner?
American Idol – Seth is playing his harmonica in the diner when he is “discovered” by Andy, a former country music star turned mega-record mogul (guest star such as Garth Brooks) whose car broke down outside. Andy promises to make Seth a Nashville star. Rusty learns that Andy is only exploiting Seth “William Hung style.” Once the contacts are signed, Andy plans to make Seth the lead singer of a group called The Talentless Trio, sure to be the laughing stock of the industry. Rusty tells his friend the truth, but Seth thinks he is just jealous and vows to pack the trailer and head to Nashville.
Stalker In The Woods – Maggie freaks out when a stalker peeps in her cabin windows. Seth and Rusty vow to protect her. They capture a man lurking in the woods. He claims innocence and turns out to be Maggie’s jilted fiancé who begs Maggie to rekindle their romance and return to Illinois with him. Comparing himself to this dashing Chicago lawyer, Rusty wonders if he’ll ever have any chance with Maggie. The stalking continues and Lieutenant Anderson nabs the real culprit- Chip’s pet raccoon.
Sixteen Candles – Chip’s parents are out of town on his birthday. The gang throws together a last minute party for him. Since they have no time to purchase gifts, they must create their own, which results in some unique presents. A dilemma arises for Lieutenant Anderson when he and the cook from the diner must both attend the party...nobody knows they are one in the same person!
Time After Time – As New Year’s Eve approaches, prized possessions disappear one by one: Carla’s apron, Maggie’s stethoscope, Seth’s harmonica, etc. Has a thief moved into the Blue Hills? Chip reluctantly relinquishes his Farmer’s Almanac as bait. Rusty and Seth secretly set a trap. They catch the robber – Carla! Her latest scheme to flee is unraveled. Now how will she win Jay Leno’s “Most Boring Time Capsule Contest?” Also, Rusty and Maggie share their first kiss at midnight.
