Chip is a 15 year old 8th grade dropout. His parents, also not graduates from high school, live by the following creed, “All you need to know is in the Farmer’s Almanac.” Chip carries it around with him religiously and quotes from it frequently.
Because he is an only child, he is constantly searching for companionship. He follows the rangers around. He bugs them, interrupts them, says stupid things (including mispronouncing his words) that are not pertinent to the conversation.
Chip was raised on fishing and hunting. His only aspiration is to become a forest ranger someday. He puts the rangers on a pedestal.
Chip gets stuck in various strange places. The audience never knows from where he will pop out next. For example. He gets tangled in bushes, stuck in holes, and falls from trees.
Chip carries dead animals around with him. One of his favorites is dead fish! This of course grosses everyone else out except himself. He never reacts when others cringe. He is used to seeing his mother gut fish on the kitchen counter.
The rangers pick on Chip calling him names like: Chip off the old block, Chocolate Chip, Chipperoo, and Chippy.
